Macy’s 8th Floor Auditorium holiday show opens November 19th

November 6, 2011 — 6 Comments

Norman Rockwell's Santa with Elves appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post published December 2, 1922.

The 49th annual holiday show at Macy’s Minneapolis 8th floor auditorium is scheduled to take place from Saturday, November 19 – Friday, December 30, 2011.  The Macy’s holiday show is now officially named:  Minneapolis Annual Santaland and Puppet Theater.

As you wander through the 8th floor decorated area, you will find an animated tale of “A Day in the Life of an Elf,” a story depicting young elves as they prepare for Christmas at the North Pole.

Afterwards Santa himself will be available for picture taking and for listening to wishes of the youngsters who pay him a visit.

Also, Macy’s invites you to visit Mrs. Claus’ Bakery, which includes fresh gingerbread cookies and many other holiday treats; Santa’s Toy Shop, filled with family friendly gifts; and Macy’s Puppet Theater (a ticketed event, but free for children under 2).

  1. You should do the Wizard of Oz again. That was the best one I’ve seen.

    • I’m always amazed at the amount of work that is done on this free annual event at Macy’s. I haven’t seen all of them, but I’ve been in line for a good many throughout the years. Thanks for the comment, Jon. rcj

  2. They have been running this one for like 3 years now, What happened to changing it every year .. was let down to see the same old thing yet again this year…

    • I haven’t been there for a couple of years so I didn’t realize they weren’t changing it annually. I located a comment box for Macy’s in downtown Minnesota. You might like to add your comment there in order to provide them with some feedback, Jeff.

Thanks for visiting, reading and commenting! rcj

  3. Would like to be able to go again and take my kids. I refuse to go if it is the same thing every year!! CHANGE IT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS, SOMETHING DIFFERENT EVERY YEAR!

    • An excellent suggestion. The lines I stood in throughout the years were worth it because of the originality and creativity revealed once you made it through the entrance. I think back on The Dickens Village and many others that made you want to walk and gawk as long as possible. Santaland, not so much! Thanks for reading and taking time to comment.
