It is mid-April, there has just been a fresh snowfall in the Twin Cities, and we are tracking 2013 State Fair grandstand ticket sales?  Yup!

Join in the fun at the Minnesota State Fair. This year’s dates are August 22 through Labor Day, September 2, 2013.

Tickets for the “really big shows” sell quickly.  If you want prime seats for such shows as Depeche Mode and Tim McGraw, it is best to get your oar in the water soon.

Storyhill, the Red House Records acoustic duo made up of Chris Cunningham and John Hermanson, has announced the lineup for Storyhill Fest 2013.  John Gorka and Raina Rose will be joining Storyhill as the headline artists for this year’s festival which will take place at the Clearwater Forest Camp in Deerwood, Minnesota on August 31 and September 1, 2013.  There will also be camping available on August 30th for those who want to make a full weekend of it.

With displays filling Harriet Island’s Pavilion throughout the 2-day event, young and old alike can learn about the Italians who settled in the Twin Cities and the surrounding region and established the rich Italian culture in the area.

Now in its second year, Festa Italiana will be returning to Harriet Island in St. Paul for two days in September, 2012 with an even larger event, including

  • more live music;
  • additional choices for great Italian food;
  • an expanded number of Italian merchandise vendors, and
  • a larger cultural exhibit.

Festa Italiana will take place on Friday, September 21, and Saturday, September 22, 2012.  Last year’s attendance surpassed 20,000 and was deemed a huge success by the Festa planning committee.  This year the Festa is likely to draw even larger crowds due to the expanded attractions that will be available for the public.

As was the case in August, festivals of various kinds are featured among September, 2012 events that will be held in our Minneapolis parks.  A wide variety of family-oriented events and activities will be sponsored by the parks throughout September, with the events either being free or having only a nominal fee for participation.

Live jousting events – now that’s something that one doesn’t see just any old where!

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival will be celebrating its 42nd season from August 18 – September 30, 2012.  Events will take place at the festival grounds in Shakopee, Minnesota from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every weekend plus Labor Day and Friday, September 28, rain or shine.

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival had its start in September, 1971 on a 22-acre field in Jonathan, Minnesota, with more than 25,000 people visiting the two weekend grand opening of the festival.  That celebration has since relocated to Shakopee, Minnesota and has grown to be the largest Renaissance Festival in the United States with an annual attendance of 280,000.

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival includes more than 500 entertainers, 275 crafters, and 120 food booths.

Hawaiian prints will be right in style during the “Luau on Broadway” in St. Paul Park.

It’s time to break out the Hawaiian prints because everyone is invited to a luau party in St. Paul Park, Minnesota for the city’s annual Heritage Days Festival.  Broadway Avenue and its surrounding areas will be mighty busy from August 16 – 20, 2012!

“Busy” includes the following “Luau on Broadway” events:  Royal Mud Stomp, Mud Volleyball Tournament, parade, street dance, Bean Bag Tournament, Bike Run, Motorcycle Show, Glow~N~Bowl, horseshoe tournament, kid games, mustache contest, kid carnival, egg toss, water balloon toss, coloring contest, kiddie parade, arts & crafts, flea market, food vendors, carnival rides & games, car show, tractor pull and the Miss Heritage Days Coronation.

Even though the annual Irish Fair will be held in St. Paul, Minnesota, I couldn’t resist publishing the above photo of a beautiful coastline in County Clare, Ireland.  The view from O’Brien’s Tower must be spectacular!

Another beautiful location: Harriet Island along the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Paul which will host the Irish Fair of Minnesota from Friday, August 10 through Sunday, August 12, 2012.

The Irish Fair of Minnesota, the largest free celebration of Irish culture in America, will offer attendees an opportunity to celebrate authentic Irish heritage through a multitude of activities.
