Get ready for an exciting event at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota – Bruno Mars will be performing for the first time ever in that venue when “The Moonshine Jungle Tour” hits the stage on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

The very special guest for the evening will be Ellie Goulding.  In April 2011, Ellie and her band performed at Buckingham Palace for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  She sang a selection of her own songs and cover versions (including tracks by Michael Jackson, Tina Turner and, inevitably, Elton John’s Your Song) for the newly-wed royals, and afterwards mingled with their guests.

Entertainment is the name of the game! Here two Harlem Globetrotters pretend to douse a group of fans with a bucket of water during the Original Harlem Globetrotters versus Global Select world championship game in 2011.

A Magic Pass for a 30-minute unique pre-show is also available for purchase.  At this event, your family will actually get to spend time on the court with the Globetrotters – shooting, trying out ball tricks, autographs and photos.  Space is limited, so act early to obtain tickets.

In championship saddle bronc riding, it is not unusual for the animal to “win.”

There is tough, and then there is real T-O-U-G-H – just being on the rodeo circuit requires participants to be the latter!  Plenty of rough and tumble action will be taking place at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota when it plays host to the “World’s Toughest Rodeo” on Friday and Saturday, February 1-2, 2013, starting at 7:30 p.m. each night.

A new feature for 2013 is the introduction of American style bull fighting, where the bullfighters, or “cowboy lifesavers,” pit their agility and skill against specially bred rodeo “fighting” bulls. It is a scored competition where the object is to get as close as possible to these fast and cantankerous bulls without getting gouged (or “hooked” as they call it in rodeo vernacular).  It’s new to Saint Paul and will surely keep fans on the edge of their seats.

Mystery novel writer Lyn Miller LaCoursiere

More than a year ago I conducted an interview with Minnesota mystery writer Lyn Miller LaCoursiere, and promised at that time to keep readers updated on her happenings and events.

Much has been taking place for Lyn since that interview, including

  • a fifth book published;
  • a sixth book soon to be released;

The Twin Cities area will soon play host to royalty – visits by their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden will take place in October, 2012 at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis and Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.

The royal visit to the Twin Cities area is in honor of the dedication of the American Swedish Institute’s new Nelson Cultural Center and other recent campus enhancements, and in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Gustavus Adolphus College by Swedish immigrants in 1862.

The King and Queen will perform dedication duties at both locations, attend a number of services and functions, and participate in a momentous time of celebration of the links between Sweden and the United States.

Former Congressman Newt Gingrich of Georgia speaking at CPAC 2011 in Washington, D.C. (Photo by Gage Skidmore)

I’m a bit of a political junkie who is following the GOP primary races with great interest.  I would be doing the same regarding a Democratic primary if a search for a Democratic candidate were underway.  Had I been voting in the South Carolina primary I would have been in the undecided category right up to the time for voting – this race has had so many twists and turns that it is not easy for me to be decisive about any one candidate.

This article is not an endorsement of Newt Gingrich, but is rather an observation about the outcome of the South Carolina race.
