Mississippi River cruises such as the Oktoberfest lunch cruises are popular autumn events

A variety of cruises are available along the scenic Mississippi River in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Combine autumn colors along the Mississippi River with polka music and German foods, and you have the enjoyable atmosphere surrounding the Oktoberfest lunch cruises that depart from Harriet Island in St. Paul on Saturdays in October. The cruises take place from 11am – 3pm.

Kowalski’s Cheese Classes: Register ASAP – These Classes Fill Up Quickly

In season now: pairing fresh mozzarella cheese with homegrown tomatoes in a classic Caprese Salad or for Bruschetta with Tomato and Basil.

Some very popular cheese classes are on the upcoming fall schedule in the Kowalski’s classrooms. Because these classes fill up quickly, readers are encouraged to sign up early in order to secure a spot for a desired class.

Jazz88: A FREE Spring Jazz Party at the Historic Loring Theater

Jazz enthusiasts are invited to a FREE Spring Party! Jazz88 is presenting an incredible lineup at their upcoming event including The Bryan Nichols Trio, Patrick Harison, the Chris Lomheim Quartet, and vocalists Arne Fogel, Connie Evingson, Maud Hixson and Debbie Duncan with Tanner Taylor.

The May Fest Jazz Party will take place at the historic Loring Theater on Thursday, May 19, 2011. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m., and the music is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Zoo News: Take the Free Como Shuttle to the Como Park Zoo

A great benefit for Como Park Zoo visitors begins today, April 30, 2011. Visitors can avoid parking hassles with the Como Park Zoo free shuttle service! Shuttle service begins weekends April 30 – September 25 (with the exception of June 17-19 & July 2-4, when there will be no service), and daily service begins June 4 – August 7.

The shuttle bus allows passengers to board at the staffed off-site parking lot at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds, located on the south side of Como Avenue across from the State Fair’s Warner Coliseum (see website for exceptions) and within minutes of the front doors of the Visitor Center. The shuttle runs continuously 9:30 am – 6:30 pm. The busses are wheelchair and stroller accessible.

The Wish Ball: A benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota

You are invited to attend an enchanted evening and a celebration of hope, strength and joy to honor Minnesota wish children at The Wish Ball. The event will be held at the Saint Paul RiverCentre Grand Ballroom on Saturday, May 21, 2011 beginning at 6:00 p.m.

All proceeds from this black-tie gala will be used to grant wishes of Minnesota children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. 10th Anniversary Living Green Expo Coming to the MN State Fairgrounds

The Living Green Expo is a two-day weekend affair scheduled for May 7-8, 2011 on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, a new venue providing greater accessibility for all. A combination of more than 300 exhibitors, workshops, and demos will showcase the latest in green and sustainable living within the 4-H, Education, Fine Arts, and Progress Center buildings.

The event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $2 per person. The first 200 visitors each day will receive a free Chinook Book, providing savings of up to $3000!

As I “nibble around the edges” and travel around the Twin Cities scene whether by car, on foot, or on the internet highway, something will occasionally cause me to “park in one spot for awhile”
as I noodle over a discovery.

While I was “traveling around” the Kowalski’s Markets website yesterday and writing an article about their summer entertaining event, I read this on Kowalski’s website about one of the local products they sell:
